Online and multiplayer status
GTA 6 Online: multiplayer status
The currently announced GTA VI experience is single-player. GTA VI Online and a multiplayer release plan have not been announced in the reviewed official sources. That confirms the current product's scope; it does not prove Rockstar will never release an Online or multiplayer component.
Primary evidence: Rockstar's PlayStation Store description ↗
Confirmed
What Rockstar says about the announced game
Rockstar's official store description says: Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
PlayStation lists one player, and Xbox lists Single player. Take-Two's dated announcement also describes a single-player experience.
Those statements establish the current release as single-player. They do not announce a multiplayer mode, give an Online date or rule out every future product. Jason and Lucia's story partnership does not confirm two-player co-op.
The exact single-player answer covers that narrow question. Use Story and Gameplay for the announced protagonists and demonstrated game features.

How does this relate to existing GTA Online?
Take-Two's preorder announcement describes the digital GTA+ month in connection with existing GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library. That offer is not an announcement of GTA VI Online.
There is no confirmed migration path from existing GTA Online to a GTA VI multiplayer product. Existing characters, rank, currency, vehicles and purchases should not be treated as transferable without a specific official announcement.
GTA V and GTA Online features cannot establish GTA VI's future multiplayer model, economy or update schedule. The current preorder reference covers the actual buying offer without promising an Online entitlement.
Crossplay, cross-progression and co-op are separate questions
Crossplay would allow players on different platforms to play together. Cross-progression would concern retaining progress across platforms. Co-op would concern playing together within a cooperative mode. Confirmation of one would not automatically confirm the others.
None is announced for GTA VI in these sources. Two supported consoles do not establish crossplay, and Xbox's cloud-save label does not establish PlayStation-to-Xbox progression. Two protagonists do not supply a multiplayer player count.
The PC reference covers the separately unannounced PC version. No PC announcement means no supported PC multiplayer compatibility claim.
GTA+, PS Plus and Xbox subscription questions
An eligible digital preorder's GTA+ month does not confirm a GTA VI multiplayer membership requirement or benefits. Neither a separate Online price nor a bundled Online purchase structure is announced.
Future multiplayer subscription requirements remain unknown. The PS Plus requirement answer covers the currently announced single-player experience. The Game Pass answer covers catalogue-inclusion status; that question is separate from paying for multiplayer access.
Use the GTA+ preorder redemption answer for the existing offer. Subscription branding alone does not establish a new GTA VI mode.
Evidence and freshness
Last checked on 5 October 2026 against Rockstar's current page, its publisher-written store descriptions and Take-Two's announcement. This page will need explicit first-party evidence before changing any unannounced status.
A future multiplayer announcement would not settle its date, crossplay, progression, player count and subscription terms unless those details are also stated. Leaks, reports and assumptions based on existing GTA Online are not confirmation.
