Download preparation
How many GB is GTA VI?
GTA VI's official download size and install size have not been announced in the reviewed sources. No confirmed GB figure or free-space requirement is available for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The preload date is known; the size is still unknown.
Download size, install size and free space are separate questions
- Download / file size
- No confirmed figure for the initial transfer.
- Installed size
- No confirmed figure for the game stored on either console.
- Required free space
- No official minimum storage requirement in these sources.
- Day-one patch
- No confirmed patch size or required launch-day update details.
These figures describe different stages of downloading and setup. A future download listing will not automatically establish the final installation footprint or additional space needed for an update.
What is known about downloading GTA VI?
Rockstar confirms PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch on 19 November 2026. Digital preorder preload begins at local midnight on 12 November 2026.
Check preload setup and eligibility, supported consoles and the release-date overview. An announced preload window does not supply a file size or establish how long your download will take.
PC has not been announced in the reviewed official launch material. There is no confirmed PC install size or system-requirement list to report; use the PC Status Desk.
Does the physical box avoid the game download?
No. Rockstar says the physical Standard version contains a download code and no disc. Receiving the box does not provide game files on physical media. Redeem its code to obtain the digital download.
The box format does not establish a smaller download, a separate install size or a later disc release. The physical vs digital guide covers delivery and format; the game-code answer covers redemption.
How to assess a claimed GTA VI file size
A supported figure needs a directly relevant Rockstar, PlayStation or Xbox source identifying GTA VI and the applicable platform. Check whether the number describes a download, installed game or required free space, and whether it is a final requirement or a placeholder.
Leaks, retailer estimates, reposted screenshots without verifiable provenance and calculations based on GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 do not confirm GTA VI's size. GuideStacker will not turn them into a GB estimate.
What can you prepare before a size is published?
Check available storage on your chosen console and follow the official preload instructions. Wait for a supported storage figure before making a GTA VI-specific capacity decision; this page cannot yet tell you how much space to reserve or whether your current free space is enough.
When an official figure appears, this page will record its source, review date, platform and measurement type. PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S figures will remain separately scoped wherever the evidence distinguishes them. Follow the Status Desk's launch reference for related unknowns, and release time for playable unlock timing.
